What is Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence-based, experiential approach that views the mind as made up of distinct “parts” — protective parts, wounded parts, and a calm, compassionate core Self. Rather than fighting or silencing difficult feelings, IFS helps you understand what each part is trying to do for you and heal the parts carrying pain. It’s widely used for trauma, anxiety, depression, and self-criticism. At The Banyan Tree, IFS-trained therapists use it to help clients build a more integrated, self-led relationship with their own inner experience.
