What if my partner does not want to come to couples counseling?

It is more common than you might think for one person in a relationship to seek counseling before the other person is ready or able to do so. We have seen great success in working with couples when only one person is in the room. If one partner learns to communicate in a more meaningful and effective manner, the entire relationship can be shifted and profound positive change can happen.

What if our schedule does not allow us to be there at the same time?

We have found that it can be very challenging to get the schedules of three people (the couple and the therapist) synched together! Although it is preferable to be able to do as many sessions as possible in person, we have found ways to improve this problem using technology. We offer couples counseling using phone and online video sessions, so people don’t have to be in the office at the same time.

What is the cost of couples counseling? Do you offer discounts?

Our couples counselors set their own fees, and most do offer discounts for those experiencing significant financial hardship. Our intake coordinator will be happy to discuss the financial piece of couples therapy with you and determine which of our counselors would be the best fit based on your needs.

Does insurance cover it?

All of our therapists work with the insurance companies as out-of-network providers. Some plans cover couples or family counseling and some do not. In the cases where benefits for couples or family counseling is allowed, we have found that, on average, the entire fee for our services is reimbursed.

How many sessions will it take?

Each couple is unique, making it difficult to determine the exact length of therapy prior to a thorough assessment of the couples' needs. That being said, couples therapy does tend to be relatively short term, and the primary reason for the couple coming in is often resolved within 6–8 sessions.

What if one or both of us has some personal issues that need to be addressed one on one?

In some cases, the initial assessment will indicate that one or both parties would benefit from individual counseling. If that is the case, your counselor will get you matched with the counselor who will be the best fit for your needs.
